Hardik Pandya went to Rohit Sharma in the first meeting after MI’s captaincy switch before the IPL 2024.

Recently under captaincy of Rohit Sharma has guided Virat Kohli-less team India impressive series win against mighty England. Indian opener Rohit Sharma was replaced by Hardik Pandya as captain of Mumbai Indians (MI) recently. Hardik Pandya made astonishing switch from Gujarat Titans (GT) to MI ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini auction.

Hardik and Rohit Sharma’s meeting puts rumors of rift to rest

On Wednesday, Mumbai Indians camp was doing practice net sessions at their home ground Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. When duo came on ground for practice, MI captain Hardik Pandya approached Rohit Sharma and gave warm hug. They had nice chat before their intra-squad match.

Mumbai Indians posted a video on social media platform of Instagram where Hardik seen walking to Rohit Sharma and giving hug. Apart from this interaction, Rohit and Hardik had long discussions before MI team huddle which was followed by practice session on that day. Rohit Sharma news update as follows.

Rohit Sharma didn’t join Mumbai Indians squad at Alibaug for team bonding session as he wanted an extra practice session. He joined MI camp on Monday and since then he is practicing hard every day.

What Hardik Pandya said when asked about Rohit?

At pre-season press conference of Mumbai Indians, when asked about having chat with Rohit, Hardik has replied by saying: “We all are professionals and he is playing and travelling so we have not connected past few months but when he will join MI camp we will have discussion.”

Hardik was all praise for former MI captain Rohit Sharma during entire media interaction. “It won’t be any different, he will always be there to guide me. As you mentioned he is Indian team captain which helps me because he has achieved so much with this team. From now onward, I will try to carry forward what he has achieved and will try to replicate it.”

Will Hardik be able to replicate Rohit at MI?

Rohit Sharma is joint most successful IPL captain to win most IPL trophies. Rohit Sharma has won IPL trophies 5 times in year 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Hardik also showed his captaincy caliber in previous two seasons with Gujarat Giants (GT) last 2 seasons where he won 1 IPL trophy and runner up in 1 season. Time will tell whether Hardik can replicate what Rohit achieved.

Mumbai Indians have announced Kwena Maphaka as replacement for Dilshan Madushanka. Maphaka has joined the squad and he has the distinction of being one of the youngest player both domestic and overseas to be a part of the IPL.
